Nanyang Technological University (NTU), a leading research university in Singapore, is known for its commitment to sustainability and innovation. As part of its Smart Campus vision, NTU recently upgraded the lighting and climate control systems on the 6th, 7th, and 9th floors of several buildings, in collaboration with HDL.
The new lighting system uses Ceiling Mount PIR and Lux Sensors to adjust lighting and air conditioning based on room occupancy. When motion is detected, lights brighten to 100% at 4000K. If no motion is detected, lights dim to 30% at 3000K and gradually shut down after 15 minutes. This helps optimize energy use while maintaining a comfortable environment.
NTU also replaced traditional 10-button panels with the Granite Display, which allows staff to control lighting and activate predefined scene modes. The system also integrates relay modules and IP net gateways for remote temperature zone control, enhancing both energy efficiency and convenience.
By leveraging automation technology, NTU has improved the campus environment and reduced energy consumption, contributing to its status as a leader in sustainable campus development.
NTU’s upgrade shows how smart lighting solutions can improve both functionality and sustainability. This initiative sets a strong example for other institutions looking to combine modern technology with energy efficiency.
