The Gerontological Center in Valjevo, Serbia, stands as the country's most modern state-licensed nursing home for the elderly. Spanning 10,000 square meters across four buildings, the center is equipped with a range of amenities designed to enhance the well-being of its elderly residents, including gyms and physical therapy facilities. However, with such a vast and diverse facility, the center faced challenges in improving the quality of life for its residents while also streamlining operational efficiency and achieving substantial energy savings.

To address these challenges, HDL undertook a comprehensive automation upgrade across both individual wards and public areas of the center. The aim was to create a more efficient, comfortable, and sustainable environment for both residents and staff.

Smart Wards with Energy Efficiency

In the individual wards, the system now includes window magnetic sensors that monitor the status of windows. When a window is opened, the system automatically adjusts the air conditioning to reduce energy consumption. This not only promotes energy efficiency but also aligns with the center’s environmental sustainability goals. Additionally, temperature control in the wards is managed through HDL’s Tile series climate panels, which offer precise regulation to ensure optimal comfort for residents. Another key feature is the automatic closure of water valves when a leak is detected, preventing potential damage and ensuring the safety of the residents.

Optimized Lighting in Public Areas

In public areas such as corridors, staircases, and offices, HDL integrated smart panels and motion sensors to manage lighting usage based on occupancy. This approach ensures that lights are only on when needed, further reducing energy consumption and enhancing operational efficiency. By automating these aspects, the center not only saves energy but also provides a safer and more comfortable environment for both residents and staff.

Through the implementation of HDL smart systems, the Gerontological Center has successfully created an environment where the needs of elderly residents are comprehensively met. This solution enhances comfort, convenience, and safety, while also demonstrating the center's commitment to sustainability.
